As a developing young woman, I struggled to find the right fit in my small town that offered little assistance and even fewer sizes. I would lonely wade through the sea of bras at department stores and find nothing that truly fit. I felt uncomfortable in my skin and just assumed it was my body that was odd, rather than the lingerie selection or lingerie education I had available.
When I was 19 I studied and lived in France. Lingerie stores were on every corner and lingerie was a huge part of fashion culture. French Lingerie is about a woman feeling good in her own skin. A motto of which is extremely important to French women.
At 20, I started working for American and European lingerie boutiques and by 23, I knew I wanted to open a lingerie store. I had learned about lingerie, fitting and bodies and wanted to share it with everyone. This education I received helped me embrace and accept my body in a way I didn't know possible. I found products that fit me. I wasn't "odd," I just needed to find more sizes and selection than my small town was offering. This feeling is what I wanted to share. By offering a wider selection of sizes and styles (often found from European companies), more women could be fit and feel comfortable in their own skin. Offering the same freedom of body acceptance that I found when I finally found my "True Fit."
At 25, I opened La Lingerie in Madison, WI. An appointment-based, educational boutique to provide thorough education for women and to receive necessary fitting information to make empowered lingerie purchase decisions. For 11 years, La Lingerie was a haven for women looking for educated and empathetic fitters, a wide selection of styles and sizes, and a fun and positive experience of buying lingerie and swimwear.
Although La Lingerie's physical doors have closed, the empowering lingerie education lives on with The Lingerie Consultant. Offering fit tips and education, product reviews, brand suggestions and more, I am excited to share the knowledge gained from being in this industry for over 20 years.
I have also worked for International lingerie and swimwear brands as a Consultant and Account Executive. I am a 500 HR Yoga Teacher and love to spread my love of yoga and nervous system reset to bring more peace to life.
